Scientific and Educational Interests
My research interests concern the structure, function, and evolution of RNA-associated molecular machines, with a particular focus on Sm-based assemblies; work in our lab utilizes approaches ranging from computational biology (bioinformatics, simulations) to structural biology (crystallography) and experimental biochemistry. I have previously taught CHEM4411 & CHEM4421, the Biochemistry Lab 1 & 2 sequence at UVa. In assisting my colleagues, Linda Columbus and Carol Price, in developing this year-long biochemistry laboratory, my main effort has been toward introducing computational approaches (bioinformatics) into the lab. BioLEd has been created in order to share the results of our efforts, enabling faculty to more easily develop their undergraduate biochemistry laboratories and research programs.
